CUET
Introduction
The Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GOI) has established the National Testing Agency (NTA) as an independent, autonomous, and self-sustained premier testing organization under the Societies Registration Act (1860) for conducting efficient, transparent and international standards tests in order to assess the competency of candidates for admissions to premier higher education institutions.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been assigned the task of conducting the Central University Entrance Test (CUET) for Post Graduate (PG) programmes for 2022.
Central University Entrance Test (CUET), for admission to different programmes of the participating Central Universities, will provide a single window opportunity to the students to seek admission in these participating Universities / Institute(s) across the country.
Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for CUET admission, candidates must have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or equivalent examination with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 4.00 (out of 5.00) in the science group.
Application Process: The application process for CUET admission usually begins in September and ends in October. Candidates need to apply online through the official website of CUET and pay the application fee.
Exam Pattern: The CUET admission exam consists of 120 multiple-choice questions, each carrying 1 mark. The exam is divided into four sections: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English. The duration of the exam is 2 hours.
Marking Scheme: There is negative marking for wrong answers in the CUET admission exam. For each wrong answer, 0.25 marks are deducted from the total score.
Selection Process: After the admission exam, candidates are shortlisted based on their merit. Shortlisted candidates are called for a viva-voce exam, which carries a weightage of 25 marks.
The online registrations for Common University Entrance Test, Undergraduate began on February 9. Initially, the last date for registrations was March 12, 2023 but later it was extended to March 30, 2023. After that, the national testing agency started the application window for the entrance test from April 9 to 11 after receiving several requests from the candidates.
According to the UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar, this year, 16.85 lakh students registered themselves for the undergraduate entrance exam out of which 14 lakh have submitted their applications. Compared to the last year, this year, it was an increase of 4 percent in the total number of students who applied for the entrance test.
